Today saw the opening in New York of a revised version of Tennessee William’s 1963 play “The Milk Train Doesn’t Stop Here Anymore”.
The 1963 version bombed, running for only 69 performances, and received very poor reviews. Undeterred, Williams – the author of such successes as “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” “A Streetcar Named Desire” and “The Glass Menagerie” – revised the play and re-staged it at the Brookes Atkinson Theatre.
The plot centered on a wealthy, dying widow whose last days are rejuvenated by the entrance of a young poet in her life.
Sadly it was not to be and despite a cast including Tallulah Bankhead and Tab Hunter, this version only ran for 5 performances.
